What made you want to start?
I have friends that CrossFit and recommended it. I was really nervous but I like a challenge.
What was your experience in joining our gym?
My on-ramp was with Chris Meyer, do I really need to say more than that? I will add that everyone is very welcoming and helpful, from the coaches to the members.
How has working out at Grassroots impacted your life outside of the gym?
I work out at 5:30am and that timeslot is a disciplined, regular crowd. We have a fantastic group and spend time socializing outside the gym. Also, I like being a positive role model for my kids.
Do you check the workout before coming in or do you just show up?
I always check; this might play into my obsessive tendencies.
What encouragement or advice would you give to new people coming in?
Find a routine that works for you then stick with it, even when you are sore every day, because one day you will wake up and not be sore! And, enjoy the ride!
Do you have a favorite benchmark WOD?
I don’t really have a favorite – I guess I will have to keep doing them until one emerges!
What fitness goals have you set for yourself to achieve in 2016?
Oh no! We are 3/4 into 2016… I better get to work! I have many goals but double-unders continue to elude me.
Do you have a power song? What gets you pumped up?
It’s funny, once the WOD starts, I don’t really notice the particular music. It’s more my fellow classmates that get me pumped up.
Where are you from?
I grew up on the East Coast in Northern Virginia, but the Bay Area has been my home for the last 20 years.
What do you do for work?
I just started a new adventure working at Peets Coffee.
What do you like to do for fun?
Believe it or not, CF is fun for me! Being active, watching my kids play soccer and baseball, bike rides, being outside, beer tasting.
Any fun facts about yourself that your gym-mates don’t know about you?
I played Division I soccer in college.
If you could describe Grassroots in five words, what would they be?
Best start to my day!
